Ecuador Volcano Tungurahua

by Hidden Trails 12/07/2010

Tungurahua Volcano, located at about four hours from Quito, made headlines last week when volcanic activity forced authorities to declare the red warning status.  The volcano, now back to orange alert, is still releasing surges of lava up to 800 meters from the crater's base.  Nevertheless Baños, a popular adventure travel town at the midst of Tungurahua, has resumed its regular life after more activity from the volcano they've coexisted since first eruptions started more than ten years ago.  In the case of a full-out eruption, tours in the Galapagos Islands will not be affected and will continue to run in the usual fashion.
